Although Omega had been producing water resistant timepieces since 1932, the Seamaster name was given after the 1947 launch. The early Seamaster models resembled dressy timepieces that were able to complete the basic function of telling time and occasionally displaying the date. During the 1970s, the Seamaster was redesigned with a sporty feel that was more suitable for divers, who needed rotating bezels, visible dials, chronograph features and the ability to reach further depths. The Seamaster Collection provides two very different models; the Seamaster Aqua Terra series, which resembles the trademark dress timepieces of the past and can reach depths of 150 meters and the Seamaster Professional series, which has the durable sporty look and can reach depths of 300 meters.
