Mens 1940s Omega 14K SOLID GOLD Bumper AUTOMATIC Watch Picture(s) and Description:

holben Store Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and (relative) affordability that are important to the savvy watch collector. Here is an exceptional example of a vintage men’s Omega Bumper Automatic timepiece, dating to ca 1947 so making it one of the FIRST bumper models. It gets even better as this three-piece model is made of 14kt Solid Yellow Gold and is quadruple-signed for Omega (dial, crown, case and mechanism. This watch measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 32.5mm in width (35mm with Omega-signed crown). In inches this is 1-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide, winding crown not included. Powering this watch is its original 17 jewel, rose gold finished bumper automatic mechanism that has been fully serviced by my watchmaker David just last week, ensuring it winds smoothly (great “bumper” action) while keeping accurate time. Newer Omega collectors might be attracted to the Seamaster or Constellation models at first, but the veteran Omega man (or lady) appreciates the marvel of the bumper wind models. They are not rotor automatics like almost everything else Swiss (i.e., the rotor doesn’t spin 360 degrees) making these early self-winding timepieces rarer birds nowadays. The silver, finely brushed enamel finished dial is in MINT condition – professionally restored to its original status. This dial features applied 18k Solid Gold hour markers (bar and arrow shaped), 60 second inner track border (calibrated to 1/5 of a second), original gold metal Leaf-style hands and a center “sweep” blue steel seconds hand. Signed OMEGA AUTOMATIC below the 12, complete with enameled Omega symbol. The domed hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition with no flaws. The case is a three piece design that is in excellent condition, crafted of 14 Karat Solid Yellow [Natural] Gold and complete with elegant, curving lugs. Folks, this case is a beauty and anything that you see otherwise is a shadow or reflection. The matching and original gold Omega-signed winding crown is in excellent order as well, winding and setting as it should. Turning the watch over I note that the snap down back lid is in excellent shape with no wear or engravings (the edges are very sharp, always nice to see). Peeking inside I find a high quality, rose gold finished Seventeen jewel Bumper Automatic movement, signed Omega Watch Co.- SWISS - Seventeen 17 Jewels, OXG. The serial number is #10,194,197 - dating the watch to late 1947 or early 1948 as per company production records. This is the EARLIEST bumper automatic I have ever sold as most are from ca 1950 to 1955. The inside of the case lid is clearly stamped WADSWORTH 14K GOLD – OMEGA WATCH CO. with case numbers below. This watch has been fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a 16mm black alligator (grain) calf leather strap for a superb look. If you’ve ever wanted a superior and highly original example of an Omega Bumper Automatic this is your boy, 4x signed, pure 14kt gold and excellent shape – what’s not to love. Always an extra nice watch at a no reserve price so have fun folks. A word about watch sizes: Exact measurements are provided for each watch I sell. They are given in both millimeters (the watch industry standard for measurement) and in inches and I typically include a U.S. quarter in one of the photos as a size reference. I also find it helpful to draw out the measurements on a sheet of paper to get a clearer idea of what the watch will look like on your wrist. Please keep in mind that men’s watches from the 1910s through the 1960s were smaller than what is considered ‘normal’ today. Are you looking for high quality watch straps for your military, sport and wire lug watches? You might want to take a look at my selection of bands plus more now on sale at my sister eBay site holbensfinewatchbands by clicking HERE. I have over 90 watch straps there now (Bund, Zulu, Open-ended, NATO, WWII, Canvas, Deployment Clasp Diving, Exotics) and am continuing to add MORE in the coming weeks so check back often. If you like unique and collectible vintage or antique windup wristwatches (or just enjoy learning about them) I suggest you bookmark my seller’s page or add me to your “favorite sellers” list. Each week I have vintage manual wind and automatic wind timepieces from the 1910s, 1920s, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s for sale (many being solid gold) ending Monday and Wednesday night - now on eBay for 12 Great Years. I am proud of my excellent feedback but especially the fact that much of it is repeat business. You can count on me delivering what I've described. In those rare instances when there is a small problem after transit just mail the wristwatch back to me (or my watchmaker David) at my expense so it can be quickly corrected and back to you safely. I am a long-standing member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) and have been collecting Swiss and American mechanical watches since I was knee high to a grasshopper. As my old dog Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"…well he says this after I hand over the extra Scooby Snacks!
