The reason behind this success is said to be the reliably fine quality of every OMEGA watch. From its modest beginnings in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848 the assembly workshop created by 23-year-old Louis Brandt gradually gained renown. Louis Brandt assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. After Louis Brandt's death in 1879, his two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar took over control of the business. Louis-Paul and Cesar Brandt both died in 1903, leaving one of Switzerland's largest watch companies - with 240,000 watches produced annually and employing 800 people - in the hands of four young people, the oldest of whom was Paul-Emile Brandt. The economic difficulties brought on by the First World War would lead him to work actively from 1925 toward the union of OMEGA and Tissot then to their merger in 1930 within the group SSIH. By the seventies, SSIH had become Switzerland's no 1 producer of finished watches and no 3 in the world. The severe monetary crisis and recession of 1975 to 1980, the banks bailed out SSIH in 1981. In 1985 the holding company was taken over by a group of private investors. Immediately renamed SMH, Society Suisse de microelectronic et d'horlogerie, the new group achieved rapid growth and success to become today's top watch producer in the world. Named Swatch Group in 1998, it now includes Blancpain and Breguet. Dynamic and flourishing, OMEGA remains one of its most prestigious flagship brands. 1st March 1965 - OMEGA's Speedmaster chronograph was "flight-qualified by NASA for all manned space missions" as the only wristwatch to have withstood the entire U.S. space agency's severe tests. On 21 July 1969 - 02:56 GMT, the Speedmaster records man's first steps on the Moon's surface. The Speedmaster became the first watch (and the only watch since) to be worn on the Moon. With this unique accomplishment came a unique nickname: the Moon Watch. April 1970 - the OMEGA Speedmaster rescued the Apollo 13 mission from a potential disaster, earning OMEGA the "Snoopy Award". 1948 saw the advent of the Seamaster, Seamaster 300 in 1957, In 1981, the newly launched Seamaster 120 set a new world free dive record at a depth of 101 meters. The Seamaster is also famous for being the choice watch for James Bond. For customer service questions please contact us at 727-896-0622. Vintage Watches Back to Top About our Vintage Watches: Any watch with a starting price of $500 or less has not been checked for timing accuracy, unless otherwise noted. Even though it runs, it may keep time well or it may need servicing. You need to take this into consideration when bidding. We sell New, pre-owned, collectible and antique merchandise and art. All items not specified as being "new" may have indications of use or wear consistent with age, be sure to look at all the images in their enlarged form and all items are sold AS IS. Any watch 20 years old or older may not meet the original factory specifications for water resistance, and timekeeping, they should not be immersed or water damage may occur. We have in house watchmakers and any warranty given in the auction will void if another watchmaker or individual opens the watch. No returns will be accepted if an unauthorized individual opens or modifies the watch in any manner. Please look at all images in their enlarged format, as photographs tell as much or more about an item as the verbiage. Watch condition terms To further explain our grading we offer the following definitions for our watch conditions we hope this clarifies the terms for the public and watch community. Ultra Mint or New Old Stock (NOS) or New: Never sold to the public, may be virtually without flaw but may show minor signs of shop wear from being placed in and out of showcase. If original box is present box may show dings or minor tears. Mint or Like New: Excellent condition, almost like new may have been carried a few times and put away in safe deposit box or drawer may have finish defects. Box if present may show marring. Minty: Very Good to excellent condition, one (1) the three (3) of the dial movement or case must being close to new condition. One (1)or two (2) of the following (dial movement or case) may have imperfections such as faint hairlines, minor brass on stem area, minor screwdriver marks to movement or case back, wear on bands normal scratching associated with normal wear, tool marks on back from case-backs being removed, enlarge images. Watch must run and look good. Box and papers booklets or tags may or may not be present and may be in any condition. Good (Not Minty): Runs, a good carrying watch may have some wear or brassing on case or band, but dial and movement are presentable. A watch you would be proud to carry. Case and band may be in any condition enlarge photographs Fair (Far from Minty): May or may not run, very salvageable, will clean up nice with a standard cleaning and minor part replacement. Poor (the anti Minty): Rough, good parts watch, may need heavy restoration to run correctly. To Fix, 2 Fix, for Parts, 4 Parts: This watch may or may not have all its parts and may or may not run. Expect it to only have only what is photographed and though it may tick when wound or rocked do not expect it to run. We have not defined a term for watches that are total junk and only used for parts, this term is kind of an enigma. Shipping and Return Policy Back to Top Shipping Information We endeavor to have accurate shipping costs in each auction. Please note the shipping costs listing in the Shipping section reflect professional packaging, handling, clean packing material. Items are generally double boxed. Your shipping costs should not exceed eBay's calculated amount listed in the auction under the bid price. Items or combined items in excess of $1000.00 will have to be shipped express mail within the USA. eBay's shipping calculators do not always accurately reflect dimensional weight of packages. The proper shipping can be found in the shipping calculator in the auction. Combining items may also change shipping box size. Check for accurate shipping quotes before you bid. All USPS shipping will require signature delivery if the package cost exceeds $250.00. The cost will be reflected in the shipping and handling stated in auction. Our in-house shipping is done under digital camera recording to verify what is placed in packages and in what condition. Most items will be packed by our in house shipping professionals. We often can combine up to 5 items in a package for smaller items. If you are an international customer we will not be able to ship USPS if your combined items are in excess of $250.00. Often paintings or larger items cannot be combined. Please contact us if you are purchasing items that are of disparate size to see if they can be combined. Outside professional shippers are used for larger items generally noted in auctions due to size or value. Shipping is calculated with eBay's shipping calculators and includes the handling fee. When calculating your shipping please take note of the "estimated packaging size" in the auction as some items will be assessed a heavier weight by the USPS or UPS based on the exterior dimensions of the package. We use clean boxes and pack with bubble and peanuts so your item arrives safe and intact. This boxing may increase the size of the package to reflect what seems to be greater shipping. Take the size of the package into consideration with your calculations. For individuals that are picking up their items in person at Hess Fine Art, 1131 4th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33707 please both check out with our checkout system and bring in your printed receipt. Customs duties, fees, taxes or brokerage fees are the responsibility of the purchaser and we will not falsify customs documents to assist you in evading your countries lawful taxes. We reserve the right to report any unlawful requests to both eBay and if required State and Federal authorities. Returns We endeavor to accurately describe all items. All sales are final unless otherwise noted. You are buying a vintage or used item "as is" for the least possible dollars. Read the entire description and all terms. Enlarge the images and then make your determination. Returns are accepted for items failing to meet the description or photographs, not for buyer's remorse. Returns are for in-store credit only. Returns must be sent in the original packaging we sent the item to you in. In the event the item substantially does not meet the description or images we must be notified of the error or damage within 3 days of delivery and the item must be posted back to us within 7 days of delivery with tracking and in original packaging we sent the items. With Used, Vintage and Antique items condition ratings are open to different interpretations. If the independent third party finds we properly disclosed all relevant facts or photographed pertinent area then a restocking fee will be applied. In the event the independent third party finds we did not disclose the relevant facts then no restocking fee will be applied. No returns accepted or price adjustments will be made for indications of wear, inclusions, flaws, brassing, or identifying characteristics that are visible in the photographs.
